Reading a Cold Wallet Transaction Ledger
How to interpret the columns and entries in an accountant-ready wallet ledger, and what each field means for your tax filing.
When you receive a summary pack from Utility Birch Core, the central document is the transaction ledger. Understanding its structure helps you review the draft accurately and discuss specific entries with your accountant.
Column Definitions
Date — the on-chain confirmation date in KST unless otherwise noted. Approximate dates are marked with an asterisk and explained in the footnotes.
Type — categorizes each entry as acquisition, disposal, transfer (internal), fee, or airdrop. Internal transfers between your own wallets are paired and cross-referenced.
Asset — the token or coin symbol. Multi-asset wallets receive separate sub-tables per asset.
Amount — the quantity moved, expressed in the asset’s native unit. Staking rewards appear as separate acquisition entries.
Counterparty — the external address or exchange name. Known exchange deposit addresses are labeled by platform name.
Reference — the transaction hash or exchange order ID for verification.
Cost Basis (KRW) — the documented acquisition cost in Korean won where records support it. Entries without documentation show “TBD” rather than an estimated figure.
Common Questions
Why are some rows marked TBD?
Your source records did not include a purchase receipt or exchange confirmation for that acquisition. Your accountant will decide whether to use a reasonable estimate or request additional documentation.
Why do internal transfers appear twice?
Each side of a transfer between your wallets is logged separately and linked by a reference number. This prevents the transfer from being counted as a disposal.
What about network fees?
Fees appear in a separate summary table aggregated by month. Individual fee entries are also noted in the ledger with type “fee.”
Reviewing Your Draft
When we send a draft for your review, focus on three things: are all your wallet addresses listed, do the transaction dates match your memory, and are any major transfers missing. Corrections at the draft stage are included at no additional charge.
